Why Camping in India

India's Wildest
Landscapes at Night

India isn't just a destination you see it's one you feel. Camping puts you inside landscapes that most travellers only photograph through a window. Under an Indian sky, every night is an event.

  • Stargazing Like Nowhere Else

Spiti Valley and the Rann of Kutch offer some of the world's clearest night skies far from any light pollution.

  • Campfire Culture & Storytelling

Every camp evening ends around a fire with local guides sharing stories, folklore and the sounds of the wilderness.

  • Luxury Without Compromise

Hot showers, real beds, gourmet camp kitchens roughing it is entirely optional on an Imperial India Escapes camping trip.

Your Questions

Ask Us Anything
Is luxury camping in India safe for first-time travellers?

Absolutely. All our camps are fully staffed with experienced local guides who know each terrain intimately. We carry full first-aid equipment, maintain 24/7 emergency contact, and pre-vet every location for safety. Many of our camping guests have never camped before and they typically become the most enthusiastic converts.

What is included in a luxury camping package?

Our camps include: private tented accommodation with real beds and quality linens, en-suite or shared toilet and shower facilities, a camp cook and all meals, a private guide, all transfers between destinations, permits and park fees, safety equipment, campfire evenings, and 24/7 WhatsApp support throughout your trip.

What is the best time of year to go camping in India?

It depends on your destination. Rajasthan and Gujarat are best October–March when evenings are cool. The Himalayas are accessible June–September. Karnataka and Kerala camps run year-round. The Andamans are best November–April. We'll always recommend the ideal season for your specific itinerary.

Can you combine camping with hotel stays on the same trip?

Yes and many of our most popular itineraries do exactly this. For example: two nights in a Jaipur heritage haveli, then two nights in a private desert camp, before returning to Jaipur for a flight. The contrast between the two experiences is often what guests remember most.

Is camping suitable for families with children?

Our camps are family-friendly by design. Camel safaris, cooking with the camp chef, stargazing sessions, wildlife spotting children typically have a transformative experience. We adjust camp logistics (meal times, activity pacing, sleeping arrangements) to suit every age group.

What should I pack for a camping trip in India?

We send every guest a detailed kit list tailored to their specific destinations after booking. Generally: lightweight layering for desert evenings (surprisingly cold), moisture-wicking base layers for Himalayan camps, good walking shoes, sun protection, and personal medication. We supply bedding, towels, and all camp equipment.
